Alberto do Amaral Junior is an Of Counsel at the TQSR Escritórios Associados. He is an Associate Professor and Tenured Professor (livre docente) at the Department of International and Comparative Law at the University of São Paulo (USP). He holds a PhD in Commercial Law (USP), a Specialization in Consumer Law (Université Catholique de Louvain la Neuve, Belgium) and he was Visiting Researcher at the Yale Law School (USA). Since 2017, he is Administrative Director of the Latin American Society of International Law (ALADI).
Alberto is a former chairman of the Legal Committee of the Association of Brazilian Companies for Integration into Mercosur and he was appointed Arbitrator of the Mercosur-Chile Agreement (2005-2007) and of the Permanent Court of Review of Mercosur (2008-2016). From 2017-2020, he was on the ad-hoc list of the World Trade Organization Arbitration Body.
He has dozens of published books and was the organizer of many others, including “The WTO dispute settlement Mechanism: a developing country perspective” (2019), and “Sustainable consumption: the right to a healthy environment” (2019), and “50 anos da Convenção Americana de Direitos Humanos: o sistema interamericano: legado, impacto e perspectivas” [50 years of the American Convention of Human Rights: the inter-American system: legacy, impact and perspectives] (2020), all in co-authorship with renowned authors from Brazil and abroad. He is also the author of “Curso de Direito Internacional Público,” one of the best-selling text-books in International Law in Brazil.
